A separate bereavement room allows privacy for families. Parkway is also prepared to manage potential industrial accidents with a large decontamination room for treating chemical exposure.

Also located in Parkway’s Emergency Department is Alabama’s first accredited Chest Pain Center. The Chest Pain Center offers a systematic approach for patients experiencing chest pain where immediate response and prompt attention are key.

At Parkway Medical Center we know your time is valuable. Not only do you want great care when coming to an ER but you also want to get in and out as quickly as possible. Pediatric Services
The pediatric unit at Parkway Medical Center serves young people age 18 and under and boasts many special touches:
• Colorful private rooms and hallways creating a cheerful environment

Because we know how important it is for children to have a "safe" place to rest and recover, we only perform painful or "scary" procedures, such as injections, in a dedicated pediatric treatment room. This allows the child to always feel safe and secure in his/her room. The nursing staff is trained to make procedures as comfortable and painless as possible. In caring for our pediatric patients, we also allow additional treatment time for nurses to apply medications to numb the skin prior to IV's, and our nurses are certified in the use of local anesthesia.

Occupational Medicine Clinic
Occupational Medicine is the specialty of Preventive Medicine specifically devoted to prevention and management of occupational and environmental injury, illness and disability, and promotion of health and productivity of workers, their families, and communities.

Occupational medicine was previously identified as “industrial medicine.” This term was used when heavy industry employed physicians to provide acute medical and surgical care for employees. By the 1940’s the medical programs had spread to all types of businesses and organizations including clerical and service employees.

Today, the complexity and pervasiveness of modern industrial processes afford occupational medicine physicians the opportunity to address work site and community health and policy issues such as atmospheric pollution, product safety, health promotion, and benefits value management.

Surgical Weight Loss
The Surgical Weight Loss Center at Parkway Medical Center is a comprehensive program for the education, treatment, and care of patients with morbid obesity who have had or will undergo weight loss (bariatric) surgery. Treatment of morbid obesity includes not only the surgery and postoperative care, but also extensive medical evaluation, dietary counseling, patient and family education, healthy lifestyle support and yearly follow-up. Click here for more information. For online resources, visit www.obesityhelp.com and www.asmbs.org (American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery).

Pain Management
Parkway Medical Center offers extensive outpatient pain management services under the direction of an on-staff Anesthesiologist. The majority of patients seen for outpatient pain management services have chronic lower back and neck problems with diagnostic evidence of entrapped or pinched nerves. Pain management care is usually sought because these problems have not responded to conservative treatments or the patient has elected not to have corrective surgery.

UroGynecology:
Until recently, women suffering from issues related to the pelvic organs and connective muscles/tissues had to see different doctors for each symptom. That's no longer the case. Parkway is now home to this area's only urogynecologist, Dr. Kari Kubik, who is specially trained to treat all of these functions which affect more and more women as they age.

Dr. Kubik combines the skills of a gynecologist and a urologist with the ability to evaluate and treat women's reproductive systems, including the bowel, bladder, uterus, urinary tract, and the connecting tissues and muscles supporting them. Anywhere from 35 to 40 percent of women experience some form of pelvic dysfunction from incontinence to prolapse. Urogynegology is an extremely specialized area of medicine, and Parkway is uniquely equipped to provide care to women suffering from these kinds of issues. Dr. Kubik specializes in minimally invasive surgery to treat patients. Click here for more information.

Digital Mammography
Everyday, we learn more about breast cancer and how to win the battle. One fact is very clear-early detection is a distinct advantage. Fortunately, breast cancer is highly detectable through digital mammography screening. If breast cancer is detected early, the five-year survival rate is 97 percent. The earier it's treated, the better your chance of survival. Click here for more information.

Why Digital
A digital system transfers image to a computer so they can be electronically enhanced. The doctor can zoom in, magnify and optimize different parts of the breast tissue using just four standard pictures. And special software allows the physician to view the entire breast on one image.

Our Digital Mammography system is also equipped with a Stereotactic Interventional device. After a suspicious area is identified on the diagnostic mammogram, the physician can perform a biopsy procedure in the same office where the mammogram took place. With the use of a computer, exact location of a breast mass is pinpointed, and x-rays are then taken from two different angles and tissues samples are taken. Outstanding image quality is critical to breast biopsy procedures and this Interventional system offers excellent visibility for clinical confidence. It is an efficient and effective way to provide an accurate diagnosis as quickly as possible.

Patient Benefits for Digital Mammography
• Faster Exams
• Improved Patient Comfort
• Sharper and Clearer Images
• Decreased Radiation
• Decrease in Cell Backs for Additional Views
• Quicker Results

Early detection can save your life. Take a moment for yourself and schedule your mammogram today. Call (256)432-GIVE or (256)432-4483 to schedule your mammorgram.
